Enrique Urrejola: “I see great hope for the future as we learn how to manage earlier varieties than Santina.”

The agricultural engineer and deciduous fruit specialist was at CherryTech 2025, where the expectations for this variety were analyzed.

The exporter’s technical advisor, David del Curto, spoke with Smartcherry about his views on the future of early cherries, emphasizing that Chinese consumers still lack appreciation for this type of variety, making it very challenging to develop them urgently.

He also emphasized that the industry was severely damaged after the effects of the 2023-24 season, and as a result, the focus will be on producing as early as possible while meeting the necessary maturity requirements.
